Carmella. She proves over and over how equal to their common task she is.
Its clear that despite the interludes she and Tony are ever supportive to one another "bottom line".
Their daughter Meadow has grown so much from season to season and I would choose her second. She's had to balance her young ideals with the reality of her parents life's choices.
Should Tony live after this "final episode"; we might see more of Meadow and the actress who plays her.
Please don't leave us all adrift with "Housewives of New Jersey" as the Italian replacement of entertaining.

EVERY single character in the show was awesome!
But I would really have to choose Carmella, with Janet a very close 2nd. She IS a classic! I cannot imagine anyone else pulling off the role as she did. Still, Carm is my choice. She was so natural in her acting, you really believed she was Mrs T Soprano, and that the actual character existed!!
Hats off to all the actors!

I love Janice!! She's hilarious!! The way her and Tony play off each other is priceless. Does anyone remember when Tony bought Johny Sack's house for her and Bobby? She blubbered to Tony and Carmella"nobody knows what goes on in my head" She is classic!

im sorry but meadow is the best by far. i know that in the early episodes she was a little brat... but what teenager isnt. she grows up to be strong and supportive of what her family is involved in. thats why she is the best.

My favorite woman on the Sopranos would be Mrs.Tony Soprano aka Carmela. I think she's AWESOME! And as a wife of a MOB BOSS, she has so much to contend with. So many ups and downs. I love the way she holds it together. IMO, she's a wonderful wife and mother. 
And Honorable Mention: Dr. Jennifer Melf. It's great chemistry she and Tony has during his office visits. My two favorite episodes w/ Tony & Dr.Melf are in season one, "PAX SOPRANA", when Tony has an affair with Dr.Melf in his dreams. And the other is in season three, "EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH", when Dr.Melf was raped. I wanted her to tell Tony so badly who the THUG was who hurt her so he could crush him like a BUG!  That was a magnificent episode....I CRIED AT THE END.

Livia -- ask any Italian or Italian American to describe his mother and he will describe someone part Virgin Mary and part martyred saint but the reality is that every Italian mother has a lot of Livia in her ... Nancy Marchand played her perfectly: the long-suffering self-centered martyr; no one could meet her expectations or fulfill her needs and desires -- not her husband, her children or anyone else and she made sure that everyone knew it and felt guilty about it.

It would have to be Dr. Melfi. She is so analytical, and reserved, but in her high heels and short skirts, she is dressed so suggestively. I believe she harbours secret desires for Tony Soprano, but cannot act upon them because of her professional commitment. I think she is hot !
