I think you missed the point. If Gene had not been a rockstar he would never have been at the Playboy mansion the night he met Shannon so they would not be together obviously. Their "celebrity" is what brought both of them to the mansion that night and thats why they met.
"Most people in her position do that"? Thats kind of an immflamatory statement don't you think? Since you don't know Shannon it's a bit presumptuous to say she would have married for money no matter what.
Lots of people have open relationship. Shannon knowing Gene has had sex with other woman doesn't mean he does everyday, every week or even every year. You are naive if you think Shannon doesn't know he has been with other woman. She is still there so seems she doesn't mind. She could have left and taken half his fortune with her but she didn't and they obviously love each other. If they are happy living the way they do thats their business really.

I was always under the impression that Shannon didn't care who and how many women Gene had been with prior to their relationship as long as it didn't interfere with their relationship. At least that was my impression.

I read an interview that Shannon did some time ago where she said she wasn't stupid with regards to what Gene does and explained her reasoning on him having sex with some random girl and him making love with someone. As long as there aren't feelings invlolved she was fine with it, at least that's what she'd like us to believe. It's interesting how in the 80's when you see old interview's of Gene talking about the number of woman he's slept with it was in the 2000's now he's in the 4,000's. I just finished reading both of Gene's books and he did say that he was born Chaim Witz but when he immigrated to the US he took his mother's maiden name which was a common thing to do and went by Eugene (gene) Klein.

Gene's true birth name is Chaim Witz or something close to that, not Gene Klein. You're being pretty naive if you think Shannon would be with Gene if he was just an average guy with an average job making 35K a year. Shannon had her choice of many rich men and there is no way she would be with Gene, Chaim or whatever you want to call him if he were just a everyday guy. Shannon would've married money no matter what but most people in her position do that.
Another thing is the producers really took us viewers as fools in thinking we wouldn't be able to see the difference between "love" and "sex". They could've done this a lot better.
Also, I really don't think Shannon doesn't mind if Gene has sex with other women. If that's true then I just got a much lower opinion of their relationship. Gene meets so many hot women at all the events he goes to. So, according to that logic he could have sex with different women EVERY week or in some cases EVERY DAY and you're saying Shannon wouldn't mind??!?!? I REALLY doubt that.

Kissmom......I couldn't agree with you more. I also thought her response to whether or not she'd be with Gene Simmons if he weren't a rock star could be that had he not been a rock star he wouldn't have changed his name from Gene Klein to Gene Simmons, so technically she wouldn't be with Gene Simmons. Like you said, Shannon's not stupid, I think she might have answered that question the same way Gene answered his questions.

My thoughts are that they love each other and the relationship works for them. I was disappointed with the lie detector because of the obvious play on words..."made love" vs. "had sex". Shannon isn't stupid and I am sure she was aware of the wording before the test took place. If she is ok with him having had sex with other women since they have been together thats her business. I just think it was a lame thing to do after all the hype. There was a play on words in the first questions too...."have you slept with thousands of women?" to which he answered no and then Danny asked "have you had sex with thousands of women?" to which he answered yes.
I think no less of Shannon at all. I think she would "have sex" with George Clooney like Gene asked. It just tells me they are ok with "sex" with other people as long as it's not "making love". Also the question about her being with Gene if he wasn't a rock star was tricky and I think thats why she hesitated. My take on her response was that if Gene were not a rockstar she probably would never have met him in the first place. I absolutely did not take it to me she is a gold digger.

Several points on this topic:
1: I dont think Shannon really cares whether he has SEX with other women, but the moment that feelings and love are involved she WILL become concerned. I too caught the distinction in the wording...I was a bit disappointed with that...but the next comment will address that.
2: He made a comment to her when it was over that his "rock star image" is blown (not those exact words, but it's what it boiled down to) which leads me to believe that perhaps he HASN'T touched another woman with sexual contact resulting since Shannon
3: Despite the fact that both the kids want their parents to marry, they love them BOTH desperately...so our feelings about whether they marry or not really shouldn't play...ultimately to each their own. If he wants it that way and she's willing to put up with it (i wouldn't) then that's whatever.
4: i've somewhat changed my opinion of Shannon since last night and the questions she answered, and surprisingly got correct...revealed a lot about her I didn't know...and yet I think much more of Gene....odd isn't it? i have MORE respect for him as a result of the lie detector test.....ohhhh darn editing!!! Can make it look like whatever it wants to!!!!
Any other thoughts?

I missed the show last night, but heard Adam C. on The Howard Stern Show today. (Howard said he had been the one to approach Gene first about doing a lie detector test.) Glad I could come here for a recap - thanks, guys. I agree that the way a question is phrased can affect the results. Still, I look forward to catching a rerun.

It makes Shannon look really stupid because she obviously knows the difference between making love and just having sex. It was a very disappointing and obviously fake "lie detector" test.
It would have been better if the asked "sex" and Gene failed the test or answered truthfully that he has had sex with other women and then see how the show went from there.

Yeah, it was a total JOKE!! Earlier Danny Bonaduce asked Gene if he has had SEX with 4700 women so why not ask him the same way if he has had sex with any woman since he was with Shannon and it's a FACT that he has!! Not only with the sex tape but you can find plenty of girls in America who have made it with from his KISS tours including one girl posted on here who knew a girl who did during the Hot in the Shade tour.
Shannon is just like a high priced hooker since she admitted if Gene wasn't a rock star she would NOT be with him. So, if Gene wasn't a rich famous rock star Shannon wouldn't even be with him. I know Gene is on top of the world but that has got to hurt ANYONE'S feelings that they only reason your woman is with you is because you're rich othewise she would leave you.

People are just taking this whole thing WAY too seriously. I mean, it's just a TV show - and the arrangement between Shannon and Gene is really none of our business. I mean really, she must know that he's with other women...it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it all out.
Bottom line: they love each other deeply and are secure enough in their love for each other.
The whole lie detector thing was rather amusing though!
