Well,

I can't agree completely, we don't know everything that cops do, we don't know exactly what their responsibilities are. I'm sur there are some really, really difficult and dangerous cop jobs out there that REQUIRE certain "privledges" because of the nature of what they do. Wouldn't be that they had to work very, very hard in some capacity to warrant such perks?

Well said.
It is not up to us to judge him. He will get his ultimate judgement when he meets his maker. I will say, I will never, ever understand the sickness that some people have that make them prey on children.

omg!
i agree that we should not put them on pedestals but we do hold them to higher standards!!!!
his sickness (if its proven true) is so damaging to all.
just about every major city police department has something dealing with internet sites/stings. his sick gratification (if proven true) made him use bad judgement and maybe he though he would not be caught. pray for him and those that his need (children) has affected!!!!!

Remowi and HT: Well said. As HT knows, my husband was a cop for 30 years as was his father and brother. All three also served in various branches. My father-in-law was in several major operations during WWII and my husband served in Viet Nam. That said, these men are not super heroes and I have certainly never put them on a pedestal. Unfortunately, people do which is totally unfair. It provides a standard no one can live up to and on some occasions sets them up for failure and makes the fall that much harder. My husband and I have known officers who have "gotten caught". I well remember the words that came from my husband as the news unfolded. They may be held to a higher standard of conduct but I agree they should not be made examples of. They should have the same judgments that other people would have. Unfortunately that is what happens by the judges, the juries and fellow officers as well. Even in today's age, people do not always see officers as human and capable of making bad judgments.

Remowi: I've enjoyed your posts. Well thought out and intelligent. HT: Talk to you later.

Remowi:
You a 100% right. They are all human and make mistakes like the rest of us.
No one in this society should get anymore privilege or consideration than others, no matter what their title. That would be a caste system.
However, I do think that people who are in a position of trust, especially with children, should be held to higher authority. They should be well screened and be expected to act with a certain amount of integrity. NOT BE PERFECT, just to understand that people, children, trust them because of their job.
Remowi: Thank you for your service.

It just goes to show that cops are just people too. I am sick to death of the trend of making cops and military out to be super citizens (I have honorable discharges from two branches of service so don't even start that).

Cops shouldn't get privileges that normal citizens don't. That shouldn't get special consideration. You shouldn't get MORE time for killing a cop than John or Jane Doe.

They are just people. Some of them are good and some of them are bad. The moment we put them on a pedestal it becomes us VS. them...and they have the badge. Ok, my rant is over. :)

If he is found guilty he should do the same time that any other citizen would have to do. Judges always want to "make an example". That's not their job...that's the jury's job...we the people...the true power of America.

OK, Assuming there was a thorough undercover operation to uncover all this, is just that, a HUGE assumption. Things like this can, and have been, found in many different ways.
The Det. CHARGED is innocent until proven guilty, no matter how many charges are levied against him. Let us please remember he is just charged and NOT convicted.
Having said that, I think anyone who is under the "Color of Authority" should be held to a higher standard because there is a certain level of trust automatically given them, especially by children.
I just hope that these charges prove unfounded. If not it is truly a sad day indeed.

It's saddening to see this, but I'm sure there had to be a thorough undercover internet operation to uncover this, as the charges are pretty serious. Unfortunately, some people in positions of authority think they are "hidden" from view or that no one will ever suspect that they could ever do anything unsavory. Wrong! I have to wonder if his being showcased on the show made him feel more "invincible"? I guess we have to remember that the vast majority of law enforcment personnel are law-abiding and set the example for all citizens.
